Medicaid Waivers
At ERC, we offer services to adults with developmental disabilities through our Waiver program.
Medicaid Waivers help provide services to people who would otherwise be in a nursing home or hospital to receive long-term care in the community.
Although there are waivers for many conditions, our focus is towards waivers for people who have intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and autism.
Residential Options
ERC offers supported living in ERC-owned homes, community housing, and family housing programs.
The goal of the residential program is to provide a supportive environment while assisting residents with the progression from dependent to independent living. Many residents will move on to an even more independent living option through the Medicaid Waiver program.

Residents at the our residential facilities have two options for weekday programs.
They can choose to take part in vocational training at Richardson Industries or participate in classes or leisure activities at our Life Skills location.
Each resident and/or guardian, along with a Case Manager, participates in the development of an Individualized Program Plan (IPP) that will define the types of training that a person needs to achieve a greater level of independence and desired quality of life.
Case Managers advocate for each resident and work with families to ensure they are receiving the services they need to meet their individual needs and goals.
Residents will work towards:
- Communicating more effectively
- Learning how to advocate for themselves
- Budgeting money and making purchases
- Participating in social/recreational groups
- Learning personal care, hygiene and home safety skills
- Learning the social skills needed to be safe and integrate into their community, family, school and church
Recreational Therapist
A Recreational Therapist plans, directs and coordinates medically-approved recreation programs for the residents.
Activities include various team sports events, unified softball teams, dances, bingo, bowling, trips to local attractions, music/drama clubs, cooking and art classes, and other activities necessary for a fulfilling life.
Direct Support Professionals
Our Direct Support Professionals assist the residents to lead a self-directed life and contribute to their community.
They assist with activities of daily living if needed, and encourage attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion. DSPs also act as advocates for each resident, in communicating their needs, self expression and goals.
With the assistance of DSPs, residents are able to take part in classes at local colleges, activities at their churches, volunteer for community organizations and attend various community events.
Waiver Eligibility
The waiting period to get onto a waiver program, can be many years, and varies by state.
Unfortunately, waiver eligibility does not transfer from state to state. So we recommend to try getting on the waiting list years in advance to make sure a slot will be open when needed.
